It’s time to move on and spend my time doing other stuff. I had planned on getting out to a few markets once we moved back here to Hobart, but I haven’t got around to it, and to be honest I’m just not feeling it anymore… Markets just wouldn’t be the same without my market buddies Ally, Casey and Miranda, and they refuse to move to Tasmania. So I blame them.. No but seriously though, I’ve just lost interest.
Logistically I just won’t have time for it either. I am heading back to uni to finish my science degree, so that is going to take up enough time. Not to mention I am absolutely loving being back in Hobart and close to the bush. So between running around the bush taking photos of fungi, learning myself some more science, playing bjj, photography and making sure the kids are washed and fed it doesn’t leave much time to make stuff.
Thanks to everyone who has supported Gumboot Designs over the years. Its been fun. Sundays at Rose St Market were some of the best times ever, not only did I get to hang out with my best mate Skullie I met Casey and Miranda (Louie and the Fox and McDrawn) who have ended up being 2 of my closest friends. So I got a lot out of it.
I’ve been putting a lot more energy into photography and have been having an absolute ball. The latest photographic obsession is trying to nail night photography and Aurora Australis especially. I got myself a nice new Nikon D7100 which has been freaking awesome for low light photography. I’ve been pretty happy with the shots I have been getting lately, but like with friggin everything I do, the more you learn and the better you get the more you realise there is to learn and how much better you could be! That applies to photography and jiu jitsu. It can be quite frustrating at times, but luckily half the fun is in the learning.
My buddy Josh (Joshua Stebbings Photography) has been freakin amazing in sharing his knowledge and helping me out with my photography. especially the MMA and BJJ side of things. I can talk for hours with him about equipment, techniques, camera settings, post processing, styles and everything in between. I pick his brains about every little thing I come across and every little problem I have getting something and he always whole heartedly helps me work out where I am going wrong. If it wasn’t for him I’d still be shooting on programmed auto and getting that nice motion blur. He has opened up a whole new world of photography to me and I am loving every second of it.
So no more Gumboot Designs so I can spend more time on Gumboots Photography and Gumboots Science Degree and Gumboots Jiu Jitsu and of course the Gumboots Family, which is a bit bigger than it was back in Victoria. We now have a bit more of an extended family and it’s been really awesome watching the kids get to know their cousin. They are up to that stage now where the initial novelty has worn off in the sense of all being nice and playing nice all the time, and now they all just act like siblings, and fight like them at times too. At the end of the day they love every second of it and are pretty happy down here.
